Survivor Series 1988 Review

By: Chris "Sledge" Douglas | +PuroWAVE  | @purowavepodcast | +Sledgecorp Productions

Once again, that time of year rolls around.  And of course that means a gratuitous amount of food... for most people.  I'm of course broker than I've ever been, and MY Thanksgiving is in danger.  But I still have the Internet!  So even though I'm in desperate need of food, I'm going to write something 15 people MIGHT read.  So without further ado and with GREAT HUNGER... I present Survivor Series 1988!

Fast Forward Review: WWE Monday Night RAW 11/11/2013

By: Chris "Sledge" Douglas

Welcome to the second edition of the Fast Forward Review, where I try to get back into modern pro-wrestling, but the show often doesn't let me.

Last time I did this, I fast-forwarded quite a bit, but I still ended up watching a good amount of the program. I think I watched at least close to two hour's worth, and that was a strongly "meh" episode. How much will I actually subject myself to today? Well, I guess now's as good a time as any to find out!

Survivor Series 1987 Review

By: Chris "Sledge" Douglas

This, is perhaps one of my favorite PPVs.  In fact, I think I've seen it more times than any other PPV. Little did I know, it would plant the seed of a certain fandom in yours truly.

Fast Forward Review: WWE Monday Night RAW 10/07/2013

By: Chris "Sledge" Douglas

As those who have listend to Episode 1 of the PuroWAVE Podcast (a new episode coming soon!) know, I've kinda fallen OUT of love with pro-wrestling in general and WWE in particular.  But, I want to like it.  And I will stop at NOTHING to get that excitement I used to feel back!

So now I've done it. I've finally done it. I've now convinced myself to watch and review modern RAW. I'm already regretting it, so I hope that it's worth it to somebody to catch this. Just so you know, I refuse to put myself through the entire 3 hours, so I will literally use the remote control to fast forward through the garbage segments. So needless to say if you are looking for an absolutely comprehensive review, look elsewhere.  With that in mind, let's take a look at RAW eminating from Pittsburgh, PA!

Match Review: WWF/SWS Wrestlefest 1991: Road Warriors vs. Genichiro Tenryu and Hulk Hogan

Road Warriors vs. Hogan/Tenryu

A few points:

- Holy shit Hogan is an ass here!  First, he knocks over a camera man as he's walking down the aisle.  Then, he knocks a ringboy off the apron.  A ringboy whose great offense was OPENING THE ROPES FOR HIM!  Then, ON TOP OF ALL THAT, he BOOTS the ringside camera right on the lense! What are you doing this for?  At the very least, that last point gave us an impressive visual.

Oh, yeah. He also casually tosses his belt (THAT'S WHAT IT IS, WWE! NOT A TITLE! THE PHYSICAL OBJECT THAT REPRESENTS THE TITLE IS THE BELT!) to the ref Hebner like it was garbage. To anyone who complains about championships meaning nothing, there's a visual for you!

- Great power shown by the Road Warriors, as Hawk lifts Tenryu and Animal (after some struggling) lifts Hogan in a very impressive power display.

- Tenryu with stereo ENZUIGIRIS... that look like they lightly grazed their targets.

- Hogan going NUTS with chairs! Sure, this is 1991 and the headshots are protected, but still.

All in all, a fun and unusual match! It's like a bizzarre mismash... Tenryu doesn't have his usual thunderstorm entrance theme and the Road Warriors come out to their NWA/Japan Iron Man theme... but Hogan comes out to 'Real American.'

Oh yeah, and a fun pull apart at the end!

My Trip to the Eagle Sawai Retirement Show, May, 2007 - Sledge's Wrestling Journal

Originally posted on Sledgecorp Productions.

You know that Eagle Sawai Retirement Event?

Well, I decided to go. It was my first joshi show here...

AND IT TOOK ME TWO YEARS OF BEING HERE TO F'CKIN' DO IT! Unbelievable that it took me that long.

Anyway, I got alot to write, but since I just got back from that very event, I am COMPLETELY beat, so I'll write up a full, well, write up of my trip.

Wrestlemania 29: What Was This??

I am a hardcore wrestling fan.

Or at least I was.

Anyway, as you can see, I'm pretty confused. I like the thought of it, but I'm more often disapointed with the reality of it these days than not. And no recent event more emphasizes this than Wrestlemania 29.

Layin' the SMACK down on Smackdown(!) - 02/17/2000

By: Chris "Sledge" Douglas

What was the deal with the "shove the babyface into the womb of the
bus" angle on Smackdown(!) just a few scant minutes ago? Where was
Kane when Cactus got shoved in, after he himself had been
unceremoniously stuck in there? And where were they BOTH when Dwayne
was getting ready to inseminate this sexy bus? What the PHUCK was the
deal with Rocky magically appearing out of the bus with 2x4 in tow?
Why didn't Kane and Cactus do the same? Where did the bus take them
anyway? To Hunter's house in Greenwich for tea and FUCKING cookies?
Did they all go to Kane's old dental office to get high on the laughing
gas?

On the brighter side, Tazz looked alright. While beating Gangrel wasn't
the greatest thing in the history of puroresu, it certainly proves that
they ain't burying him. Take a look at his promos. "Survival is not
an option". Definitely cool by Sledgecorp standards.

Not to mention the crazy face heat he's been getting no matter where he
goes. Note to WWF... please let him cut a promo soon... this guy spews
some killer tough-guy venom when in control of the stick... let him
fly.

Someone I know predicted that he would be buried. His quote
was, "They're gonna water him down just like they did to the Dudley's".
Welp, look at the Dudley's now. Hell, it seems that Buh Buh Ray damn
near ORGASMs every time he puts chicks through tables. That sure as
hell ain't watered down. One thing about the WWF in this era of
Attitude... you gotta give them time. If after say, oh, 7 months and
the guy is still being screwed over or phucked up, THEN make those
comments.

But, you never know... the WWF has been known for making some really
STUPID decisions (the Gobbledegooker... some Thanksgiving tradition),
so only time will tell this convoluted tale of Tazz and...

porn.

You know what? I'm really starting to dig those Mae Young bits...
she's actually quite funny. Look, I know that I did say that
that match with Moolah against Ivory and... uh... someone else... was
disturbing... and I still stick by that. But in a non-wrestling
capacity, I think Mae plays the drunken old bat to a tee. Hell,
it's even giving Mark "Brainyeurism" Henry some face heat! Only two
people (her and D-Lo) have accomplished this herculean feat. If it
works, FLY WITH IT!!! FLY DAMMIT!!!

Catch ya.
